Three-day tea expo begins Sunday

Bangladesh Tea Expo-2018 will begin tomorrow with a view to expanding market and promoting tea related products as well as boosting production with new varieties.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the three-day expo in city's International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), reports BSS.

The Ministry of Commerce and Bangladesh Tea Board (BTB) is organizing the expo.

The first edition of Bangladesh Tea Expo was held on January 12-14 last year where 46 organizations including seven from India participated and over 20,000 people visited the expo.

A seminar on "Career Prospects in Tea Sector" will be held on second day while another seminar on "Diversification of Tea in Bangladesh" will be on the concluding day.

Three TV talk-shows on Labour Welfare in tea gardens in Bangladesh, Prospect of tea tourism in Bangladesh, and Tea and health will be aired.

Apart from cultural programmes on each day of the expo, mini auction and tea party will be organized.

In this expo, a clone variety (BT-21) of tea will be introduced. In addition, prizes will be distributed in seven categories in the expo for making contributions in tea sector.
