NBR to observe ‘National VAT Day’ Sunday

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) will observe the 'National VAT Day-2017' tomorrow to encourage people to pay Value Added Tax (VAT) for the development of the country.

It will also observe the 'National VAT Week-2017' from December 10 to 15, reports BSS.

The slogan of this year's 'VAT Day' and 'VAT Week' is 'VAT Dichhe Janogan, Desher Hochhe Unnayan'.

President Abdul Hamid in a message greeted the taxpayers, VAT administration and its officials and employees on the occasion of the National VAT Day-2017 and the National VAT Week-2017.

In his message, the President said revenue mobilization is important for the overall development of the country.

Resource mobilization from internal sources through motivation of taxpayers has been increased through motivation of the people, simplifying the VAT payment system, formulation of a time-befitting revenue policy and utilization of technology in revenue mobilization system, he added.

He said rewarding the highest VAT paying individuals and establishments has also encouraged the people to pay VAT.

The President said the government has taken up different realistic and pro-people programmes to achieve the middle income country status by 2021 and developed country status by 2041.

The NBR has been playing very encouraging role to increase revenue mobilization for financing these development programmes of the government, he added.

In observance of the programme, the NBR will give 'VAT Honor Card' for the first time to establishments having record of submitting VAT returns for 12 months in a raw.

The number of establishments submitting VAT return has been increased to 60,000 from 32,000, said NBR, adding that of them 35,000 establishments have submitted return regularly.

These 35,000 establishments will get VAT Honor Card, the NBR said.

Like previous year, the NBR will honour the highest VAT paying individuals and establishments.

It will also honour media organizations and journalists for creation awareness among people about VAT.
