Stocks close week up on higher transactions

Stocks ended the week on Thursday upward with rising trend of major price indices at Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges on higher transactions.

The daily average trade value at DSE was 18.6 percent up at Taka 718.23 crore and the trade volume was 9.3 percent up at 19.31 crore shares, BSS reported.

The broader DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the week with 94.54 points up at 6,193.57. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also closed the week with 42.64 points up at 2,244.10 and with 12.18 points up at 1,341.28.

Out of the 336 traded securities, 117 closed higher against 203 losing issues when 16 remained unchanged.

During the week, the top five gainers were Standard Ceramics, Imam Button, Style Craft, RECKITTBEN and Samata Leather.

The five major losing companies were CAN Textile, OIMEX, Central PHL, Shyampur Sugar and SAVAREFR.

The top five turnover leaders were City Bank, Ifad Autos, Lanka Bangla Finance, BBS Cables and BRAC Bank.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the week up, with its major CASPI index ending 284.29 points higher at 19,195.93.

Like DSE, most of the issues traded here closed higher when both the trade value and volume of shares increased.
