Stocks ease up on rising trade volume

Major market indicators at Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges eased up Tuesday as trade volume rose on low level of profit-booking selling amid consolidation.

The broader DSEX at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished 9.24 points up at 4570.01 when the blue-chip DS30 and the Shariah DSES followed it to finish at 1748.31 and 1112.02 respectively.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed flat in green, with its major CSCX ending at 19.37 points up at 8555.41.

On DSE, the daily transaction value was marginally down at Taka 336.82 crore, but the volume rose by 6.75 percent to 9.23 crore shares.

On CSE, the daily trade value was Taka 2.37 crore for 8.81 crore shares when 128 securities ended higher, 83 lower and 35 unchanged.

DSE was also a sellers` market on Tuesday when 163 scrips closed higher against 106 declining and 56 static issues.

Fuel and power, food and allied and pharmaceuticals were the day`s major advancing sectors, with All Tex, CMC Kamal, BSC, Tunghai and Libra Infusion taking top five positions in the gainers` list.

Bank and Telecom sectors lost most when the major lagging securities were Savar Ref, KPPL, Kay & Que, Monno Stafflers and Agrani Insurance.

City Bank topped the turnover leaders followed by CVO Petrochemical, Beximco Pharma, All Tex and ICT.
