Inflation eases to 5.57pc in July
The rate of inflation came down to 5.57 percent in July, the first month of fiscal 2017-18, from 5.94 percent in June, according the latest data of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal today released the monthly consumer price index (CPI) at the ECNEC briefing in NEC-I conference room in city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
He hoped the inflation would decline further in future with the decrease in prices of essential commodities.
The food inflation also eased to 6.95 percent in July from 7.51 percent in June while the non-food inflation decreased to 3.53 percent in the month from 3.67 percent in the previous month.
According to the BBS, the inflation at the urban level in July declined to 5.86 percent while it was 5.41 percent at the rural level.
At the rural level, the food inflation decreased to 6.86 percent in July from 7.20 percent in June while the non-food inflation declined to 2.84 percent in July against 2.94 percent in the previous month.
On the other hand, in urban areas, the food inflation eased to 7.15 percent from 8.21 percent in June while non-food inflation came down to 4.48 percent from 4.67 percent in June.
