GP fined over internet package scam
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined mobile operator Grameenphone (GP) Tk 2.5 lakh for `deceiving consumers` by its internet packages.
The consumar rights regulatory body came up with the monetary panelty after it found proof of an allegation of a consumer over GP’s internet package.
Pranab Kumar Pramanik, an assistant director with DNCRP confirmed Jago News on this.
According to officials, a consumer Shibly Sadik filed a complaint with the directorate on September 29, 2015 saying GP deceived him in an internet package.
He wrote in his complaint that a message from Short Messaging System came to his mobile phone with an internet offer that consumers would get two gigabyte internet package free of cost if they buy one gigabyte. It was informed in the message that the offer will remain valid for 28 days. Shibly said that when he bought the package, he was told that the 2 GB extra internet package will remain valid only for seven days and he could use it only between 12 AM to 2 AM.
The regulator has found evidence of deceiving after investigating the complaint.
When contacted, GP’s head of external communication Sayed Talat Kamal told Jago News that they would respond through an email communication later on.
