Banking fair begins Tuesday

The country`s first ever banking fair will begin from November 24 at the Bangla Academy premises in the capital city. Bangladesh Bank (BB) is organising the five-day fair to be held from November 24 to 28.

General Manager of the governor`s secretariat AFM Asaduzzaman said Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman will attend the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.

The theme of the fair is "To Build a Banking Nation", said BB chief economist and chief coordinator of the fair Dr Biru Paksha Paul as he was briefing reporters on the fair at the central bank`s headquarters in the capital city on Monday.

The economist said all banks, financial organisations and other related institutions will participate in the fair to showcase their services and the development that has taken place in the country`s banking sectors in the recent years.

He said the fair would be part of the BB`s continuous endeavor in promoting banking activities towards achieving sustainable and pro-poor growth.

The objectives of the fair include raising public awareness about banking products and services, expanding the financial literacy programme of BB at national level, promoting banking sector, its products and services, presenting the banks as service providers to the customers, encouraging the customers optimizing the usage of technology in the banking sector, ensuring broadened financial inclusion, bringing the young and the youths under banking services and extending the banking services and products to the people`s door steps.

On the sidelines of the fair, seminar, workshop, roundtable meeting, debate competition and cultural programmes will be arranged every day.
