Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has underscored the need to boost Bangladesh-Turkiye cooperation, particularly in defence, trade, and investment, to deepen the historic ties between the two nations.
He made the remarks during a meeting with a five-member Turkish parliamentary delegation led by Mehmet Akif Yilmaz, Chairperson of the Bangladesh-Turkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, according to an official release.
Highlighting Turkiye as a trusted defence partner, the Adviser called for expanding collaboration in military training, defence technology, and joint production. He noted that enhanced cooperation in these areas would benefit both countries amid growing global and regional security challenges.
Touhid also expressed appreciation for Turkiye’s continued humanitarian assistance to the displaced Rohingya population and thanked the delegation for visiting the camps in Cox’s Bazar earlier this month to assess Turkish support programmes.
He further proposed increasing opportunities for Bangladeshi students in Turkish universities and urged Ankara to recruit more skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi professionals.
Mentioning the government’s recent approval of a Yunus Emre Institute branch in Bangladesh, the Adviser said the initiative would help strengthen cultural and people-to-people links.
Mehmet Akif Yilmaz praised Bangladesh’s handling of the Rohingya crisis and described the country as a “brotherly nation,” assuring the Turkish Parliament’s continued cooperation in all spheres, including defence and development.
Turkiye’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Sen was also present at the meeting.
