ABT leader put on 6-day remand over Dipan murder

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) top leader Shamim on a six-day remand for his alleged involvement in the killing of Jagriti Prakashani publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ahsan Habib granted the remand after DB Inspector Md Fazlur Rahman produced Moinul Hasan Shamim, 24, before his court and souhgt a 10-day remand.

On Tuesday night, Detective Branch of Police (south) arrested ABT’s top leader Shamim, organisational name Sifat alias Shomir alias Imran, from Gazipur district’s Tongi area.

Earlier, police had declared a bounty for Shamim’s arrest.

Dipan, whose publishing house published a book of slain writer-blogger Avijit Roy, was hacked to death in Dhaka’s Aziz Supermarket on October 31, 2015.
