Security has been intensified at the US Embassy in Dhaka, with the specialised SWAT team of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deployed to the premises. Police said the decision came after receiving credible information about a possible attack.
SWAT team members are specially trained for high-risk operations and are equipped with advanced weapons and gear.
Masud Alam, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of DMP’s Gulshan Division, told Jago News on Tuesday that security in the embassy area has been intensified amid concerns of potential security risks.
According to a police source, a group was reportedly planning an attack on the US Embassy in Dhaka. Embassy authorities, based on their own investigation, have already identified three individuals who could carry out the attack. The embassy obtained their names, addresses, and photographs—all three are Bangladeshi citizens—and later shared this information with the DMP to enhance security.
Intelligence sources added that security measures at the embassy area were stepped up from 9:00 pm on Monday. Unprecedented security arrangements are in place in and around the embassy, with law enforcement personnel, including DMP’s CTTC units, maintaining the highest level of vigilance.
