Arrest order for Sherpur war crimes accused

A special tribunal today issued an arrest warrant against a man of Sherpur district in a case filed for allegedly committing crimes during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued the warrant following a petition moved by Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman today.

In the petition, the prosecutor said the accused needs to be arrested and kept in jail for proper investigation in the war crimes case. The accused may flee the district if he is not arrested.

Prosecutor Rezia added that investigators found the man’s involvement in at least two incidents of murder committed in 1971 war.

He is an influential man in his locality and “trying to influence” the investigation of the war crimes case, the prosecutor said.

The investigation in the case began on November 19 last year.

The tribunal fixed October 31 for passing next order in the case.
