Bashundhara City fire caused losses worth Tk 50 corer

The fire that broke out in city’s Bashundhara City shopping complex has burned nearly 1oo shops and the loss is estimated worth tk 50 corers.

M A Hannan, president of Bashundhara City shopping complex shops owner association claimed fire originated from a luggage shop on on Sunday morning on C-block, Level-6, of the mal burned around 1oo shops, six or seven of them gutted completely.

He also claimed that the loss is estimated worth caused by fire tk 50 corers.

Earlier, a devastating fire erupted on level 6 of the shopping centre around 11:23am on Sunday.

After nine hours of frantic efforts the Fire Fighting Unit able to doused the fire. 29 fire fighting units took part at the operation.

A total of 29 firefighting units worked to douse the flames. There are 1800 shops in the mall.

Meanwhile, fire fighters have rescued some 15-20 people who were trapped on level 6.

A five-member probe committee headed by Ajit Kumar Roy, DD of Fire Service, has been formed in the connection and the committee asked to submit their report within seven days.

However, on March 13, 2009, at least seven people were killed and 20 others injured in the furious blaze that broke out at the Bashundhara City complex.
