Journalists vow to fight against terrorism

Leaders of different journalist associations on Saturday took a vow to carry out a strong fight both with their pens and taking to the streets against militancy and terrorism.

Speaking at a human chain programme in front of the Natoial Press Club, they also called upon all, irrespective of creed, colour and profession, to put up a strong resistance against communalism and militancy.

As part of their countrywide programme, the National Press Club, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) jointly arranged the programme protesting militancy and communalism.

Several hundred journalists joined the programme holding banners inscribed with a slogan ‘Wake UP Bangladesh to Fight against Militancy and Communalism’.

Speaking on the occasion, Samakal editor Golam Sarwar said, ‘Journalists are not only soldiers with pens, but also the soldiers in the field imbued with the ideals and Bangabandhu and the spirit of the Liberation War. No evil force can suppress journalists to fight against militancy and communalism.’

Reazuddin Ahmed said there is no politics and division among journalists when it comes to fighting against militancy and terrorism. ‘Down with terrorism and militancy. No one will be allowed to carry out killings misinterpreting Islam. We will have to resist these evil forces.’
