Five people were injured in a clash between students of Dhaka College and Dhaka City College on Tuesday. All of them were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
To prevent further violence, Dhaka City College has been declared closed for Wednesday and Thursday. The announcement was made by the acting principal of Dhaka City College, FM Mobarak Hossain, on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking about the incident, a student of Dhaka College said, “Yesterday, some students from City College assaulted a few of our classmates. That’s why today’s clash took place.”
The injured have been identified as Md Nazmus Sakib, 18, and Md Rajin, 18, of Dhaka College; Md Shamim, 18, of City College; Sani, 30, an employee at Chandrima Market; and another student, Md Siam, 17.
Confirming the incident, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Camp, said that five people, including students, were brought to the hospital's emergency department following the clash. All sustained head injuries, while City College student Shamim suffered a stab wound to the waist from a sharp weapon. According to doctors, his condition is critical.
The concerned police station has been informed of the incident.
