The cabinet on Monday adopted two resolutions extending thanks to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her wining the "Champions of the Earth" award and her government`s success in securing appointment of two Bangladeshi judges as members in the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in the Hague of the Netherlands.The resolutions were taken in the weekly meeting of the cabinet at Bangladesh Secretariat here today, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said after the meeting.United Nations Environment programme (UNEP) conferred its highest accolade "Champions of the Earth" award on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 14, 2015 in recognition to her far-reaching initiatives to address climate change.The cabinet in its resolution said the award is a result of the farsighted and successful leadership of the Prime Minister to address adverse impacts of climate change.Bangladesh, despite being very vulnerable to climate change, has achieved tremendous success in addressing the issue by taking timely measures and pragmatic programmes for adaptation and mitigation, the cabinet noted.In another resolution, the cabinet said, appointment of former Chief Justice Md Tafazzal Islam and former judge of the High Court Justice Md Awlad Ali as members to the Permanent Courts of Arbitration (PCA) in the Hague of the Netherlands, was a reflection of the credibility and reputation of Bangladesh to international community.The appointment is a manifestation of the fact that the Government of Sheikh Hasina has earned goodwill and confidence in the global arena.The cabinet also felicitated Justice Md Tafazzal Islam and Justice Md Awlad Ali for their appointments to the PCA.
