The government has banned 12 factory owners from traveling abroad for failing to pay workers’ salaries and bonuses by the set deadline.
Labour Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain announced the restriction at a press conference at the ministry Tuesday, saying the owners cannot leave until payments are cleared.
“Time’s up,” Sakhawat told reporters, voice firm. The dozen owners—running factories unnamed but unmistakable in their defiance—blew past the government’s payment cutoff. Now, their passports are as good as paperweights. “No travel until every worker’s paid,” he said.
Behind the ban lies a familiar ache: paychecks delayed, bonuses dangling just out of reach.
