DSE turnover crosses Tk5b-mark again

Stocks posted marginal gains Monday, extending the positive trend for the third sessions in a row amid choppy trading.Analysts said the market witnessed a choppy trading throughout the session as both the optimist and shaky investors demonstrated their active presence during the session, just ahead of Eid vacation. The bourses will go for five days Eid vacation from September 23, so only one trading session is left before Eid vacation. After witnessing volatility throughout the session, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, closed at 4,841.61, gaining 10.93 points or 0.22 per cent. Turnover also improved to Tk5.20 billion, which was 24.40 per cent higher than the previous day’s Tk4.18 billion.The gainers took a lead over the losers as out of issues traded 318 issues traded, 164 closed higher, 114 lower and 40 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor. Khulna Power Company Ltd dominated the turnover chart with shares of Tk196.50 million changing hands followed by BSRM Steels, Beximco Pharma, United Airways and Saif Powertec. ICB Seventh Mutual Fund was the day’s best performer, posting a rise of 7.07 per cent while Bangladesh Building Systems was the day’s worst loser, plunging by 14.92 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.The port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also edged marginally higher for the third sessions with its Selective Categories Index CSCX gained 11.64 points to end at 9,019.12. Gainers beat losers 114 to 92, with 30 issues remained unchanged on the port city bourse that traded 9.39 million shares and mutual fund units with a value of Tk395.30 million.
