A youth drowned after saving the life of two boys who fell into a water body in Badda area in the city on Monday afternoon.
The deceased, Sarwar, 28, was a pickup van driver, hailing from Bogra district.
Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station said a group of students were playing football in an open ground near the water body this afternoon.
Suddenly, the ball fell into the water and two of the boys drowned while trying to recover the ball, the OC said quoting a witness.
Noticing this, Sarwar jumped into the water and rescued the boys. Later, he again jumped into the water to get back the ball but failed, he added.
On information, divers from Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and recovered Sarwar’s body around 4:50pm, the police officer said.
Later, the body was handed over to his family.
