Committee formed to probe 7 murders on vessel

A committee has been formed by the Ministry of Industries to investigate the brutal murders and injuries of crew members aboard the fertilizer-laden MV Al Bakhera near the Harina Ferry Ghat in Chandpur.

The announcement was made through a press release issued by the ministry on Monday (December 23).

The four-member investigation committee includes an Additional Secretary of the Ministry as its convener and a Joint Secretary as its member secretary. The committee has been directed to submit a report within the next five working days, outlining the reasons behind the incident, the extent of the damage, responsibilities of those involved, and clear recommendations to prevent similar maritime incidents in the future.

The Ministry of Industries has not only expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killings and injuries caused by the attack by a group of robbers on the vessel but also urged swift action to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, resulted in the recovery of seven bodies. The deceased include the vessel’s master Kibria, driver Salauddin, helmsman Aminul Munshi, greaser Sajibul Islam, crewmen Azizul Munshi, and Majedul Islam. The identity of one other victim has not yet been determined.
