A Dhaka court on Saturday granted a two-day remand to Ismail Hossain, the former secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare, who was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on his way to the United States.
The court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq passed the order after a hearing on the day.
Deputy Commissioner of the Prosecution Division of DMP Md Tareq Zubair gave this information.
According to court sources, former secretary Ismail Hossain came to the airport to go to the United States.
Later, the police detained him and conducted preliminary interrogation. Then, the police of the Airport Police Station produced Ismail Hossain under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code and presented him before the court and applied for his seven-day remand for the sake of a fair investigation.
On behalf of the accused, his lawyer held a hearing seeking cancellation of the remand and bail. On the other hand, the state opposed bail. After hearing both sides, the court rejected Ismail Hossain's bail application and ordered a remand.
Secretary Ismail Hossain is a member of the 11th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration). He also served as the secretary of the Ministry of Food was forced into retirement on October 22.
