US Embassy to provide $5 lakh to preserve cultural heritage

The US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) in Bangladesh has taken initiatives to provide grants ranging from $25,000 to $500,000 to preserve local cultural heritage.

This information was shared in a programme arranged by AFCP at Bengal Shilpalay in Dhaka's Dhanmondi on Thursday, December 19.

The representatives from Bangladesh's various sectors who are interested to preserve cultural heritage attended the programme.

Faroha Suhrawardy, cultural affairs specialist, and Jonathan Gomes, public relations expert, at the US Embassy Dhaka, moderated the event and discussed in detail about the application process for the grant programme and the opportunities of getting the grant.

AFCP supports the preservation of historic buildings, archaeological sites, manuscripts, museum collections, and forms of traditional cultural expression, such as indigenous languages and crafts in more than 120 countries around the world. Projects may range in length from one to five years.

Faroha Suhrawardy said the US government supports to preserve Bangladesh's cultural heritage through the AFCP grant programme which is not only helpful to shape the identity of local communities but also very important for the global history, too.

To get the AFCP grant, interested individuals and organisations will have to submit the concept notes to the US Embassy via email DhakaGrants@state.gov by January, 2025.
