A violent scuffle erupted between ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs and opposition members in the Parliament premises in New Delhi, leaving two BJP MPs hospitalised.
Odisha MP Pratap Sarangi and Uttar Pradesh MP Mukesh Rajput suffered head injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
Ajay Shukla, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, confirmed the severity of their injuries. "Sarangi had a deep cut on his forehead and was bleeding profusely. His blood pressure was alarmingly high when he arrived. Mukesh Rajput, who also sustained a head injury, lost consciousness briefly but regained it after reaching the hospital," he said.
Both MPs remain in the ICU as doctors work to stabilise their conditions.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from allegations of insulting remarks against BR Ambedkar, sparking heated exchanges between members of the opposition and the ruling NDA alliance. During the clash, Pratap Sarangi was allegedly pushed, sustaining injuries. BJP members accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of being responsible for Sarangi's injury, with BJP MP Nishikant Dubey exclaiming, "Aren’t you ashamed, Rahul? You’ve resorted to hooliganism."
Rahul Gandhi, however, denied the allegations, countering, "I was heading into Parliament when BJP MPs stopped me, pushed me, and issued threats."
Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Prahlad Joshi later visited the injured MPs in the hospital to check on their health. Speaking to the media, Chouhan stated, "Sarangi has received stitches on his head to stop the bleeding. We are deeply concerned about his condition."
The incident has intensified tensions between the opposition and the ruling BJP, marking one of the most chaotic confrontations in the Parliament premises in recent times.
