No need for election delay as EC in place: Fakhrul

Since the Election Commission (EC) has been formed, there is no need for a delay in the election. The people expect a clear statement from the Chief Adviser on this matter, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday.

He made the remarks during a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

Mirza Fakhrul said that elections could be held quickly after completing the necessary reforms related to the election process.

Referring to the BNP's Standing Committee meeting held the previous day, he said that everyone believed Dr Yunus' statement on the election was unclear, with no specific details provided.

The BNP Secretary General further stated that in his Victory Day speech, the Chief Adviser mentioned holding elections in late 2025 or the first half of 2026, which was very vague and lacked a specific time frame. He also noted that the Chief Adviser's press secretary mentioned June 2026, which is contradictory. This will cause confusion.
