BNP demands specific roadmap for elections

In response to Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus’s statement, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed said on Monday that while the Chief Adviser has provided an idea regarding the elections, the BNP demands a specific roadmap rather than just general suggestions. However, another Standing Committee Member, Mirza Abbas, welcomed the Chief Adviser’s remarks.

Salahuddin made these comments while speaking to journalists after placing floral tributes, reciting Fatiha, and offering prayers at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of Victory Day. The event was jointly organized by BNP's Dhaka South and North units.

Mirza Abbas added, “We welcome the Chief Adviser’s remarks about the possibility of elections taking place by the end of 2025 or in the first half of 2026.” He further stated, “After the fall of the fascist Hasina regime, the people demand a fair election and the establishment of a democratic government. Therefore, reforms must be completed swiftly to provide the nation with a democratic government through elections.”

Traffic in the areas surrounding Ziaur Rahman’s grave was temporarily halted due to the presence of BNP leaders and activists from various units, wards, and thanas of Dhaka city.

Among those present were BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Gazipur District BNP President Fazlul Haque Milon, former BNP North Dhaka President Saiful Alam Nirab, Swechchasebak Affairs Secretary Abdul Qadir Bhuiyan Jewel, Youth Affairs Secretary Mir Nawaz Ali, Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Kamruzzaman Ratan, Executive Committee Member Nazimuddin Alam, BNP North Dhaka Convener Aminul Haque, and South Dhaka Convener Rafiqul Alam Majnu.
