The Supreme Judicial Council has completed its investigation into allegations of irregularities against several High Court judges. Following the investigation, the Council submitted its findings and recommendations to the President.
The Supreme Court administration disclosed this information on its website on Sunday (December 15). As per regulations, the President will now act on the Council's recommendations.
On October 16, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed placed 12 judges on leave following allegations of corruption and acting as accomplices to the Awami League-led government. The judges were barred from performing judicial duties on High Court benches.
The 12 High Court judges under investigation are: Naima Haider, Sheikh Hassan Arif, Ashish Ranjan Das, Mohammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar, S M Moniruzzaman, Ataur Rahman Khan, Shahed Noor Uddin, Md Akhtaruzzaman, Md Aminul Islam, S M Masud Hossain Dolon, Khizir Hayat, and Khondker Diliruzzaman.
On the same day, Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan announced that the Chief Justice had decided not to assign any benches to these judges. Subsequently, an investigation was initiated by the Supreme Judicial Council, led by Chief Justice.
