Govt restricts foreign travel, study leaves for officials

The interim government has issued directives restricting public officials from recreational foreign trips and extended study leaves.

A notification from the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO) on Monday emphasised that foreign travel should only occur when deemed essential for national interests.

The notification stated that government officials must avoid group travel and prepare annual forecasts of potential foreign trips.

Details of an official’s foreign travel in the past year must accompany any new travel proposal.

Advisers and secretaries of the same ministry are discouraged from traveling together unless absolutely necessary, with justification required for simultaneous trips.

The circular further stipulated that foreign trips must align with the official's responsibilities, and relevant experts should be prioritised for technical tasks like procurement and pre-shipment inspections.

Ministries have been directed to maintain a database of foreign travel records, which will be overseen by the CAO. These measures aim to streamline travel practices and focus on critical national priorities.
