The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the High Court verdict that declared ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed, issued the order on Tuesday.
Barrister Anik R Haque, Additional Attorney General, represented the state during the hearing.
The state filed a plea on December 2 with the Appellate Division, seeking to stay the High Court order.
The High Court had earlier, on March 10, 2020, declared 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan of Bangladesh. The order was passed by a High Court bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader.
In 2017, Supreme Court lawyer Dr Bashir Ahmed filed a writ petition requesting the declaration of ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan. Following a hearing, the High Court issued its verdict.
