Indian External Affairs Secretary Vikram Mishri has expressed India’s commitment to strengthening ties with the people of Bangladesh.
Speaking to reporters on Monday (December 9) after a meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vikram emphasised the importance of fostering positive relations between the two neighbouring countries.
“Following the political changes on August 5, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of India. In today’s meeting, I discussed various issues with the Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary,” he said.
Mishri highlighted that India values its relationship with Bangladesh, describing it as a "people-centered" bond that has historically benefited both nations.
“We have had strong ties in the past, and we want to continue fostering this relationship in the future. It’s a connection that is mutually beneficial and focused on the people of both countries,” he added.
Vikram said that India seeks “positive, constructive, and mutually beneficial relations” with Bangladesh. "We have discussed some of the recent unfortunate incidents, such as attacks on cultural, religious, and diplomatic properties. India hopes that Bangladesh will address these issues with a positive mindset to help accelerate the relationship," he said.
He also mentioned ongoing efforts to address obstacles in the tourism and trade sectors, aiming to foster smoother collaboration and mutual growth in these areas.
