The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Baharul Alam, has said that individuals will not be arrested wholesale just for being named in cases.
The newly appointed IGP made these remarks at a press conference held at the police headquarters on Thursday (December 5).
He said, "Innocent people are being harassed, exploited, and deceived, especially in connection with the events of August 5. Wholesale arrests cannot be made."
Baharul Alam also stated, "It is not the police's job to harass innocent people. If someone is named as an accused in a case, we will not chase them down for arrest. The police must treat the public with humility."
He further added, "I believe that if the recommendations of the Police Reform Commission are implemented, the police force will become more people-friendly."
The IGP also mentioned that the police force is working to create an environment conducive to free and fair elections.
