Abu Sayed murder: Rokeya univ ex-proctor suspended

The authorities of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur have temporarily suspended Md Shariful Islam, the former proctor of the university and an associate professor in the Department of Political Science, in connection with the murder of Abu Saeed during the mass uprising.

The university's registrar, Dr Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, issued a notification on Monday, December 2, announcing the temporary suspension.

The notification stated, "Md Shariful Islam has been temporarily suspended from his position as per Section 39(2) of the Government Service Act, 2018, due to his arrest by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on November 19 in connection with the murder case of student Abu Sayed."

The notification further mentioned that during the suspension period, he will be entitled to a maintenance allowance. This order has been effective since November 19.
