There are currently 473,001 vacant positions in government services. The Ministry of Public Administration has directed the relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to fill these vacancies.
The ministry sent a letter to the concerned authorities regarding this directive on Monday.
According to the 2023 government employee statistics, the number of approved vacant positions stands at 473,001. Recently, the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) issued a notification to fill 3,688 vacant positions through the 47th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. The BPSC only appoints officers for first-class non-cadre positions and, in limited cases, second-class officers. Other approved positions are filled by the relevant ministries, departments, subordinate offices, agencies, corporations, and companies, as mentioned in the letter.
The letter further noted that the interim government, formed through a mass uprising, is committed to fulfilling public expectations and reducing unemployment among educated youth. Despite the large number of vacant positions, no significant efforts have been made to fill them effectively.
In this context, the Ministry has directed those vacant positions in ministries, departments, subordinate offices, agencies, and field offices be filled according to the rules. The Ministry has also requested that details of the steps already taken to fill these vacancies, along with a Word file, be submitted to the Ministry of Public Administration within 15 working days of receiving the letter.
