Tapashee Tabassum Urmi, a temporarily suspended assistant commissioner and executive magistrate, has been granted bail after surrendering to a Dhaka court in a defamation case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Imran Ahmed granted the bail following her application through her lawyer.
Earlier, on October 8, Abu Hanif, a senior council member and media coordinator of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, filed a defamation case against Urmi, alleging defamatory remarks about Abu Sayeed and other martyrs. After recording the plaintiff's statement, Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain issued a summons requiring Urmi to appear in court on November 28.
According to the case details, on October 5, Urmi, despite holding a responsible position, posted disparaging remarks on Facebook about Shaheed Abu Sayeed, as well as the government formed through the student-led mass movement and its chief adviser, Dr Muhammad Yunus.
