Govt doesn’t want to be harsh on student protests: Home adviser

Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Tuesday said that students can express their grievances in a peaceful manner by gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan instead of blocking roads. Alternatively, they can sit for discussions with the authorities.

"We want a peaceful resolution. In no way do we wish to take a harsh stance on the students' protests," he said.

He made these remarks on Tuesday (November 26) afternoon while inspecting embankments in the Matian Haor area of Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj. Following this, he and his team headed towards Tanguar Haor and other haor regions to inspect embankments designed to protect crops.

Addressing farmers, the advisor assured them, saying, "Farmers have nothing to worry about. There is an adequate stock of fertilizers and seeds. We are committed to standing by the farmers and ensuring the boro paddy harvest is brought home successfully this year."
