Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatan Jagaron Jote, has been handed over to the Chattogram Metropolitan Police by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB). According to the DB, he is accused in a case filed in Chattogram.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, Additional Commissioner and DB Chief, confirmed this information on Tuesday morning. He stated, "Chinmoy has been sent to Chattogram. He is currently in the custody of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), where he is accused of a crime."
Police sources confirmed that Chinmoy is currently held at the CMP’s Kotwali Police Station. He is facing a treason charge in Chattogram, and he will be presented before a court later in the afternoon.
Earlier, on Monday (November 25) at 4:30 PM, Chinmoy, also the spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaron Manch and the head of Pundarik Dham in Chattogram, was arrested by DB police from the airport area in the capital.
On October 25, Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaron Manch organized a rally in Chattogram, following which a treason case was filed against Chinmoy, accusing him of disrespecting the national flag. The case was filed by Firoz Khan, a suspended BNP leader.
Recently, two organizations, Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaron Manch and Bangladesh Sammilito Shankhalagu Jote, began holding programs under the banner of the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagaron Jote. Chinmoy Krishna Das was appointed the spokesperson for this new alliance, which held a rally in Rangpur a few days ago with eight demands.
Meanwhile, Chinmoy has been recently expelled from ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) Bangladesh.
