BNP has no disagreement with interim govt: Tarique

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said that his party has no disagreements with the current interim government regarding the ongoing reform process.

He, however, emphasised that reforms are meaningless if they fail to address the daily needs of the people.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Dhaka Union of Journalists’ (DUJ) annual general meeting held at the National Press Club on Monday, Tarique Rahman iterated the BNP's stance on timely elections.

"BNP believes that along with reforms, free and fair elections must be conducted within a reasonable timeframe. No government can sustain itself without the mandate of the people," he said.

Tarique recalled the sacrifices made during the anti-dictatorship movements, highlighting the deaths of at least six journalists and over 2,000 students during the July-August mass uprising.

Additionally, he mentioned that around 400 BNP leaders and activists lost their lives during this period.

Tarique Rahman criticised the Awami League, calling it an adversary of democracy.

He warned of ongoing conspiracies to undermine democratic progress, asserting that expelled forces would not find their way back into Bangladesh’s political landscape.

Jamaat-e-Islam Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, BNP Standing Committee Member AZM Zahid Hossain and its Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz and its General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, BFUJ Secretary General Kader Gani Chowdhury and

DUJ General Secretary Khorshed Alam also spoke at the meeting DUJ Organising Secretary Sayeed Khan.
