SB apologises, withdraws officer over harassment of Nurul Kabir

The Special Branch (SB) of the police has apologised for the recent harassment of New Age editor Nurul Kabir at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. An investigation into the incident has been initiated, and the officer involved in the harassment has been withdrawn.

Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, shared this information with the media on Sunday (November 24).

He stated that the incident occurred due to a blacklist created during Sheikh Hasina's government, which included thousands of individuals. This list was used to either harass them during their travels or prevent them from leaving the country.

After the interim government took office, the Special Branch began removing politically connected individuals, dissenters, journalists, and human rights activists from this blacklist. A significant portion of this process is being carried out manually, and as a result, some names, including those of dissenters and journalists, remain on the list. The authorities are now working to expedite the cleanup of the list.

The police remain committed to serving the public and setting an example for the nation, he added.
