A Dhaka court has granted an eight-day remand for former Food Minister Md Qamrul Islam in connection with the shooting and killing of trader Abdul Wadud in the capital's New Market area during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order after DB police inspector Jahangir Arif of the Ramna zone presented Qamrul before the court, requesting a ten-day remand.
Qamrul was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the capital's Uttara area on Monday night.
Wadud was shot dead by police in the Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station at 5:00 pm on July 19. His brother-in-law, Abdur Rahman, filed a murder case on August 21 against 130 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
