A group of students from Residential Model School and College returned to campus after staging a two-hour road blockade on Sunday, demanding the cancellation of digital lottery-based admissions in favor of entrance exams. Following their departure, traffic resumed on Mirpur Road in front of the college.
The protest began at around 10:15 am when the students broke through the college gate and occupied the street in front of the campus. Teachers arrived at the scene and assured the students that their demands would be communicated to the appropriate authorities. The demonstration concluded around 12:45 pm.
The students argued that the digital lottery system, initially introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, is no longer relevant. They claimed that the system, in place for several years, deprives deserving students of the opportunity to enroll in the institution. They demanded a merit-based admission process through entrance exams, particularly for Grades 3, 6, and 9, to ensure fair evaluation.
While the students warned they would not vacate the road until their demands were met, they later announced plans to continue their campaign online, advocating for the cancellation of the lottery system and the reinstatement of entrance exams.
Efforts to contact the principal and other faculty members of Residential Model School and College for comments were unsuccessful, as they declined to speak to the media.
Although the students have suspended their protest for the day and returned to class, they have warned of further demonstrations, including human chains and rallies, if their demands are not addressed within a reasonable timeframe.
