One killed in Pabna BNP infighting over dominance

A violent clash between two factions of the BNP over dominance in Pabna's Hemayetpur Union resulted in the death of Jalal Uddin, 40, and left several others injured.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Betepara village under Sadar Upazila.

Jalal Uddin, son of Shakur Ali from Kazipara in the union, succumbed to injuries while being transported to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after initial treatment at Pabna General Hospital.

According to local sources and police, tensions had been brewing between two rival groups—one led by union BNP leader Abul Hashem and the other by former UP chairman Muntaz Ali—over dominance in the area following the fall of the government.

The dispute escalated into a verbal altercation on Friday night, culminating in a violent clash on Saturday morning.

Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station, A Salam, confirmed the incident.

“Police have inspected the scene, and additional forces have been deployed to maintain peace and prevent further violence,” he said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident as efforts to stabilise the area remain underway.
