Ex-DNCC Mayor Atiq on 5-day remand in murder case

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for Atiqul Islam, the former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), in connection with a murder case filed at Uttara Purba police station. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury on Wednesday issued the order after DB police inspector Md Mahmudur Rahman, the investigating officer, produced Atiq in court, seeking a ten-day remand.

Atiq was arrested by Mohammadpur police on the night of October 16 in the Mohakhali DOHS area.

According to case documents, Bokul Miah was shot in the head during the anti-discrimination movement on July 18 in the Uttara Purba police station area. He died on July 19 while undergoing treatment. His wife, Monika Akter, later filed the murder case.
