Blockade on Dhaka-M’singh highway lifted after 2 hours

The workers who had blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway for nearly two hours in protest of unpaid wages have lifted the blockade. The workers removed the blockade at around 10:30 am on Wednesday.

Workers from a garment factory, Tara Tex, in the Gazipura area of Gazipur City Corporation began the blockade at around 8:30 am to demand their unpaid wages for the month of October.

According to police and local sources, the workers initially staged a protest in front of the factory for their October wages before marching to the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, where they created the blockade, halting all vehicular movement. As a result, long traffic jams formed on both sides of the highway.

Upon receiving the news, industrial police, local police, and army personnel arrived at the scene. After negotiations, the workers were persuaded to lift the blockade, and traffic resumed at around 10:30 am.

Assistant Police Superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police, Mosharraf Hossain, confirmed that the workers had blocked the highway demanding their wages for October. Following successful negotiations, the workers cleared the highway, and traffic returned to normal.
