Barguna-1 MP Shambhu placed on 6-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a six-day remand for Dhirendra Chandra Debnath Shambhu, the former Member of Parliament for the Barguna-1 constituency, in connection with a case filed over the murder of trader Abdul Wadud in the New Market area of the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday after police inspector Jahangir Arif, who is investigating the case, produced Shambhu before the court and sought a ten-day remand.

Earlier, around 9:00 am on Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan DB police arrested Shambhu in Uttara, Dhaka.

Wadud was shot dead by police in the Nilkhet area under the New Market Police Station on July 19 during the anti-discrimination student movement. His brother-in-law, Abdur Rahman, later filed a murder case against 130 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
