Due to the ongoing conflict, 183 more Bangladeshis have returned from Lebanon to Bangladesh. So far, a total of 521 Bangladeshis have been repatriated on nine flights.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued on Wednesday (November 6), confirmed that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 183 Bangladeshi nationals stranded in Lebanon due to the war were repatriated on two separate flights, at the government's expense.
The repatriated migrants were received at the airport by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and IOM.
IOM authorities provided each of them with Tk 5,000 in pocket money, food items, and basic medical treatment.
Mustafa Jamil Khan, Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spoke with the returnees at the airport about the horrors of the ongoing conflict and inquired about their wellbeing. So far, one Bangladeshi national has been reported killed in a bombing.
The government has committed to repatriating all Bangladeshis wishing to return from Lebanon amid the ongoing conflict, at its own expense. The Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut is making every effort to ensure the safe return of those willing to return, while also ensuring the safety of those reluctant to leave, as mentioned in the statement.
