The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has refuted allegations circulating on Facebook that Mahfuj Alam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, is affiliated with banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The misinformation campaign includes a screenshot from an article published by The Business Standard mentioning a man named Abdullah Al Mahfuz as an alleged Hizb ut-Tahrir member.
However, the Press Wing clarified that Mahfuj Alam and Abdullah Al Mahfuz are entirely different individuals, as confirmed by a fact-check investigation by Ajker Patrika.
Mahfuj Alam has played a prominent role in the student movement that spearheaded the uprising against Sheikh Hasina's regime.
He has publicly stated that he has never been associated with Hizb ut-Tahrir or any other banned or Islamist groups.
