Former Shipping Minister M Shajahan Khan was admitted to the coronary care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after falling ill at the Detective Branch (DB) office on Monday.
He became unwell around 3:30 pm and was immediately taken to the One Stop Emergency Center at DMCH's Emergency Department, where he received first aid. Constable Md Mojahid of Jatrabari Police Station confirmed that they promptly brought the former minister to the emergency department for treatment.
Following initial aid, an ECG and other tests were conducted. He was then transferred to the medicine ward in DMCH's new building.
According to Mojahid, the former minister was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at the hospital at around 6:00pm.
Shahjahan Khan, also an Awami League presidium member, was arrested on September 5. Later he was shown arrested in several cases and court put him remands for several terms.
The former lawmaker from the Madaripur-2 is also the acting president of the Bangladesh Workers Federation.
He was elected a MP contesting the poll as an independent candidate in 1986 for the first time from the Madaripur-2 constituency.
Later, he was elected MP from the same constituency with nomination from the Awami League in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2008, 2014, 2018 and 2024.
