Joint secy’s home in Uttara raided; Tk 1cr, 11 iPhones seized

A joint force conducted a raid at the residence of former Additional Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, Mohammad Amjad Hossain, in Uttara on Sunday night. 

During the operation, authorities seized Tk 1.95 crore in cash, various foreign currencies, eleven iPhones, and luxury branded watches.

The raid took place at House No. 33, Sector 11, Uttara. Mohammad Amjad and his son were subsequently arrested by officers from Uttara West Police Station.

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Uttara West Police Station, confirmed the arrests on Monday morning. 

He stated, "Mohammad Amjad and his son are currently in custody. They were arrested last night, and a case has been filed against them."

According to sources, the joint operation, carried out by the army and police, was based on secret information. The raid commenced at 10 p.m. and lasted approximately four hours.

Notably, Mohammad Amjad retired as Additional Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry in 2020. His ancestral home is in Sadar, Gazipur.
