Shahadat takes oath as CCC Mayor

BNP leader Dr Shahadat Hossain has taken his oath as the Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC). In the absence of elected councilors, a 17-member committee has been formed to assist him.

AF Hassan Ariff, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, Cooperatives, and Land, administered the oath at a ceremony held in the conference room of the Local Government Division (LGD) at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Sunday (November 3).

At the event, the adviser noted that the government is not merely a caretaker administration but a custodian of those who were killed or injured in the uprising. “This government is not just a routine caretaker government; it has been formed under special circumstances following a movement, and therefore, public expectations are high,” he stated.

He further mentioned that, given the absence of councilors in Chattogram, a 17-member committee has been established to work under the mayor’s leadership. Full administrative appointments will soon be made for city corporations, and the current mayor will serve a legally determined term.

During the ceremony, Mayor Shahadat expressed his commitment to Chattogram’s development, stating, “If Chattogram thrives, Bangladesh will thrive.” He pledged to work on infrastructure improvements and prioritize projects to alleviate waterlogging as soon as possible. He also promised to make every effort to fulfill his election manifesto and transform Chattogram into a “Green City, Clean City, and Healthy City.”
