The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two individuals, including the personal assistant of former Youth and Sports Minister Nazmul Hasan Papon, on charges of attacking student protesters during an anti-discrimination movement.
The arrested individuals are Papon’s PS, Sakawat Mollah (52), and A Hekim Raihan (52).
Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous, director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, confirmed the information on Sunday morning. He stated that a mass procession of student protesters took place in the Lakshmipur and Komolpur areas of Bhairab, Kishoreganj, on July 19. Miscreants attacked the protesting students during the procession, resulting in several injuries.
Mamun Mia (31), Rubel Mia (32), and Alam Sardar (42) filed three separate cases at Bhairab police station regarding the incident.
After the cases were registered, the accused evaded arrest and went into hiding. RAB-14 launched a shadow investigation to apprehend them and quickly initiated efforts to bring the involved suspects to justice.
Subsequently, on Saturday, an operation was conducted in the Dhanmondi area of the capital, resulting in the arrest of Sakawat Mollah, Papon’s personal assistant, and A Hekim Raihan, another accused in the case. RAB’s operation to apprehend other suspects involved in this case is ongoing.
