A Dhaka court on Friday placed former Housing and Public Works Minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury on five-day remand in a case filed over the murder of a BNP activist.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehera Mahbub passed the order after the police produced him before the court, and seeking a 10-day remand.
A team of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Muktadir in Dhaka's Mirpur area early today.
According to the case documents, BNP leaders and activists, as part of their party programme on December 10, 2022, began to gather in the capital. The police and AL men created a ruckus in front of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan on December 7. They entered the BNP office, charged batons and opened fire at the BNP men, leaving an activist named Mokbul critically injured.
Later, he died from his injuries in a hospital.
Over the murder, a case was filed against 256 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on September 30 this year.
