Kachukhet episode can’t be taken lightly: Jamaat

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman said that the incident of setting fire to army and police vehicles during garment workers’ protests in Dhaka’s Kachukhet area should not be taken lightly.

His comments came on) amid heightened tensions around garment workers’ demonstrations Thursday (October 31.

“Following the Gopalganj incident, we now see unrest in Dhaka’s Kachukhet. Addressing workers' legitimate claims fairly is the duty of authorities, but the targeting of army and police vehicles raises concerns if it’s intended to destabilise the country or economy,” said Shafiqur,

The protest, which took place on Kachukhet earlier in the day, saw garment workers throwing bricks at law enforcement and setting vehicles ablaze, ultimately turning the area into a battlefield.

In the Mili Super Market area, two garment workers sustained gunshot injuries during the clashes and were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
